ENGINEERING STUDY / FIXTUREJS—02

Engineering concept illustration.

01 / THE PROBLEM

The engineering challenge.

Two-pin location schemes can bind or misfit when pin, base-hole, part-hole, and positional tolerances stack unfavorably.

02 / CONSTRAINTS

What the solution must consider.

  • Simulation results depend on the statistical model and cannot replace drawing requirements or physical inspection.

03 / ENGINEERING APPROACH

Reasoning before geometry.

01

Engineering method

Evaluate both explicit worst-case configurations and sampled tolerance combinations, while keeping geometry and tolerance sources separate.

02

Workflow features

Pin/base/part-hole inputs; Pattern and positional tolerances; Deterministic boundary scenarios; Fit-rate simulation; Result export.

04 / DESIGN & IMPLEMENTATION

Connecting intent to execution.

The tool evaluates size and position tolerance combinations through worst-case scenarios and sampled fit-rate exploration.

  • Pin/base/part-hole inputs
  • Pattern and positional tolerances
  • Deterministic boundary scenarios
  • Fit-rate simulation
  • Result export

05 / VALIDATION

The checks behind the design.

Design study

Fit-rate results depend on the statistical model and selected tolerance inputs. Compare the stack with drawing requirements and a reference calculation before selecting a locating scheme.

06 / OUTCOME

The value of the work.

Demonstrates practical tolerance analysis applied to fixture location strategy.

THE ENGINEERING PRINCIPLE

Positive diameter clearance does not guarantee two-pin assembly.

Each hole may clear its pin at the size limits while the pair still fails because of pattern error. Size, center distance, position tolerance and datum references need to be evaluated together.

A question for a technical conversation

When would a round-and-diamond locating scheme avoid unnecessary overconstraint?
