SolidWorks Automation Workflow Collection
A curated collection of SolidWorks automation workflows for assembly search, fabrication drawings, DXF export, BOM integration and parametric workholding concepts.
A SolidWorks VBA search and navigation tool for large assemblies, with ranked text matching and temporary visibility isolation.
Explore the code, workflow and required setup.
ENGINEERING VALUE
I built a search and navigation workflow that helps engineers locate part instances and temporarily isolate them while preserving assembly visibility.

01 / THE PROBLEM
Finding and isolating a part instance in a large assembly is slow when users must browse the feature tree manually.
02 / CONSTRAINTS
03 / ENGINEERING APPROACH
Normalize several component-name representations, score candidates, map list rows back to component objects, and maintain an explicit visibility snapshot for fast isolate mode.
Component index for searchable part instances; Ranked exact, token, fuzzy, and edit-distance matching; Preview, select, isolate, zoom, and visibility restore; Mouse-wheel handling for the result list.
04 / DESIGN & IMPLEMENTATION
R10.1.1 combines component indexing, ranked search, form events, mouse-wheel handling and an isolation state machine. Installation requires the companion frmPartSearch UserForm.
05 / VALIDATION
The module defines the search, interaction and visibility-restoration logic. Installation and runtime checks require SolidWorks and the companion UserForm.
Configured result-list limit in R10.1.1.
06 / OUTCOME
I built a search and navigation workflow that helps engineers locate part instances and temporarily isolate them while preserving assembly visibility.
THE ENGINEERING PRINCIPLE
A useful assembly search does more than match text: it helps distinguish similar parts, focus the right occurrence, and restore visibility after inspection. Exact, token and fuzzy matching answer different kinds of queries.
How would you handle repeated components, configurations and visibility restoration in a large assembly?
