Fixture ROI Calculator
A browser and workbook calculator for comparing conventional and fixture-assisted workholding economics.
An abstracted collection of machining, vacuum, printed, welding, soft-jaw, inspection, and automation-support fixture work.
ENGINEERING VALUE
Positions fixture design as an engineering discipline connecting CAD, tolerances, manufacturing methods, and operator use.

01 / THE PROBLEM
Production and inspection work require repeatable, accessible, manufacturable tooling that can be released and supported on the shop floor.
02 / CONSTRAINTS
03 / ENGINEERING APPROACH
Translate part and process requirements into controlled location, support, clamp, access, inspection, and manufacturing decisions.
Datum and locator strategy; Clamp/access review; Soft jaws and vacuum concepts; Inspection gauges; BOM and drawing release; Shop-floor prove-out and revision.
04 / DESIGN & IMPLEMENTATION
My work spans machining, vacuum, printed, welding, soft-jaw, inspection and automation-support fixtures, connecting the locating concept to drawings, BOMs and shop-floor revisions.
05 / VALIDATION
Release records document 267 design deliverables from January 2025 through July 13, 2026: 81 fixture designs, 144 models and 42 shop aids. These are documented deliverables rather than manufactured-unit counts. Separately, I designed and supported 89+ production and inspection fixtures during calendar 2025.

06 / OUTCOME
Positions fixture design as an engineering discipline connecting CAD, tolerances, manufacturing methods, and operator use.
THE ENGINEERING PRINCIPLE
Locators establish the part’s position; clamps maintain contact against the intended supports. Tool access, chip clearance, operator loading and part distortion affect the design as much as the CAD model.
How would you separate locating and clamping functions, then test repeatability during a shop-floor prove-out?
