Active-Document Waterjet DXF Export
A SolidWorks VBA exporter for cut-list bodies using manufacturing properties and geometry-aware orientation.
A SolidWorks VBA batch exporter for part and assembly folders, with assembly recursion and optional subfolder scanning for eligible cut-list bodies.
Explore the code, workflow and required setup.
ENGINEERING VALUE
Demonstrates scalable CAD batch processing with explicit safety and traceability controls.
Engineering concept illustration.
01 / THE PROBLEM
Manual DXF export across many assemblies is time-consuming and prone to duplicates and inconsistent orientation.
02 / CONSTRAINTS
03 / ENGINEERING APPROACH
Separate discovery, eligibility, orientation, export, and cleanup states with counters and guarded fallbacks.
Assembly recursion and optional folder recursion; Unique part/configuration tracking; DXF=YES cut-list filter; Direct temporary-part export; Tab-aware and corner/edge orientation.
04 / DESIGN & IMPLEMENTATION
Version 10 uses a configurable drawing-template path and defaults to a single-folder scan. Recursive scanning can be enabled; a plain part does not qualify solely from a file-level DXF flag in the default cut-list workflow.
05 / VALIDATION
Export eligibility, duplicate handling and configuration paths are explicit in the module. Runtime qualification requires SolidWorks, the selected template and representative production-model types.
06 / OUTCOME
Demonstrates scalable CAD batch processing with explicit safety and traceability controls.
THE ENGINEERING PRINCIPLE
Reliable engineering automation needs input checks, predictable output, clear diagnostics and a way to verify that quantities and references were preserved. Saving clicks alone is not sufficient evidence of correctness.
What would you test when the input is incomplete, duplicated or outside the tool’s supported scope?
